Glass-box RMM

In one sentence

A glass-box RMM is a Remote Monitoring and Management platform whose every signal the owner can see, whose every action the owner can audit, and whose every authority the owner controls. The opposite — a black-box RMM — is one where the vendor and the technician have visibility the practice owner does not, by design or by neglect.

The black-box default is the historical norm in IT support generally and dental IT specifically: the vendor maintains the monitoring stack, the technician sees the data, the owner sees a monthly invoice and an SLA report. When something goes wrong, the owner depends on the vendor's telling of the story.

A glass-box RMM inverts that. Every signal the agent reads is visible on the owner's dashboard. Every remediation action is logged with the policy that authorized it and the confidence score that triggered it. Every permission boundary is something the owner sets and can revoke. The vendor still operates the platform, but the owner is no longer information-asymmetric to their own infrastructure.

The practical security argument: in several recent dental and dental-adjacent breaches, the entry point was the vendor's remote-access account, not the practice's. A glass-box platform turns vendor opacity from a courtesy issue into a security issue — and then resolves it by making opacity impossible.
